A big thankyou......

....to everyone who came down to support State of the Art at the Eldon Arms on Saturday night, it was a very successful evening in every sense with a good time being had by all.

We would especially like to thank Andy and Nicky from the Eldon Arms for letting us take over for the night, all of the bands and performers who put on an amazing show, everyone who helped with the technical side of things and finally, Johnny, who worked really hard organising everything and making sure the evening ran smoothly.

Fundraising Update (PLEASE HELP US IF YOU CAN!!)

Shiney new Button Eye/SOTA joint logo by Dani Green.

With reviews of our extremely successful Art & Acoustic Music Night to come, it is with great excitement that our fundraising for the Portsmouth exhibition is nearing it's target!  This does not mean we can breathe a sigh of relief nonetheless, as taking our exhibition and presence to London taaaan in July is a mammoth financial feat; but one we intend conquer with the hopeful generosity of fellow art lovers and enthusiasts.  The government may be trying to sideline art but we have our own say still, thanks to free will, and we need to prove that we can make art thrive in spite of their disinterest!  *power to the people!!!!*

Up and running again....

With dissertations written, bound and handed in and the first semester’s work done and dusted the State of the Art team are well and truly back in action. A cake sale held in the Eldon café on Tuesday marked the start of a number of fundraising events to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Once again, the SOTA members donned their aprons and got busy baking resulting in an array of delicious cakes. As suspected, students + cake = a successful days fundraising with takings of more than £70. A big thanks to all those that bought cakes as well as everyone who made them and manned the stall. If you missed out on the chance to snap up a cake on Tuesday don’t worry, SOTA will be back again in two weeks time at the Eldon café so why not go on down and treat yourself.

Cakes are only the beginning, the next big event is taking place on Saturday 5th March at the Eldon Arms. State of the Art, in association with Buttoneye are holding an evening of acoustic music and artwork, with a number of local bands playing and the chance to see work from some of the SOTA artists it promises to be a good night.

Watch this space for more detailed information soon.

Its that time of year again.

Yes that right, its that time of year again. Whilst mums and dads queue up for hours in the shops buying their little darlings their new uniform our SOTA artists have been slaving away over that dreaded word that all third year students fear..... the dissertation. As well as offering many challenges the dissertation gives our artists the chance to explore and work through their ideas as an artist, many producing work at the same time allowing personal growth and understanding. With a final show at the end of this year I can not wait to see what the SOTA team produce and look forward to the start of term. See you all in the Autumn.

SOTA, the Final Exhibition.

I would like to start by saying a big well done to all Level 2 BA Fine Art. Their show was fantastic. With an outstanding level work which rivaled any contemporary art show, Portsmouth University Students have finished the semester with a fantastic end to the year and we wish all the exhibiting artists the best of luck for the third year.

I would just like to say a big thank you to all those who exhibited, who came to the show and those who helped organize it.
The hanging committee did a fantastic job squeezing all the various shaped art work into the Eldon building. A big well done to the Refreshment team, Dani Darby and her mum for cooking and preparing all the food.

I would like to say a thank you to our tutors Jacqui Mair and Ken Devine who have been fantastically supportive this year with the show and realizing our ambitions. A big thank you to Nicholas Forbes for all his hard work, the exhibition wouldn't have happened with out him. Well done for Johnny Hamer for getting the band last minute and for all his hard work.

Finally well done to the SOTA team. The exhibition was exciting and pushed the boundaries of contemporary art as well as raising the bar on the level of work expected from an undergrad show.

I for one am extremely excited about this group of artists and am very much looking forward to seeing what they do next.

StateOfTheArt T-Shirt Printing.

Yesterday was a busy day for all clothes shops that sold white shirts. Whilst the StateOfTheArt team grabbed anything they could get their hands on to print logos for advertising, the website team have added artists pictures to the website where you will be able to read an individual statement written by the artist them self as well as see a picture of their individual work. We have done this to offer an interesting insight into the creative minds of our artists as well as a sneak preview of their upcoming work. I for one am very excited. I would also like to take the time to say a big thank you to Robert Knox who kindly printed all the shirts for us!

Best Wishes from StateOfTheArt
