Its that time of year again.

Yes that right, its that time of year again. Whilst mums and dads queue up for hours in the shops buying their little darlings their new uniform our SOTA artists have been slaving away over that dreaded word that all third year students fear..... the dissertation. As well as offering many challenges the dissertation gives our artists the chance to explore and work through their ideas as an artist, many producing work at the same time allowing personal growth and understanding. With a final show at the end of this year I can not wait to see what the SOTA team produce and look forward to the start of term. See you all in the Autumn.

SOTA, the Final Exhibition.

I would like to start by saying a big well done to all Level 2 BA Fine Art. Their show was fantastic. With an outstanding level work which rivaled any contemporary art show, Portsmouth University Students have finished the semester with a fantastic end to the year and we wish all the exhibiting artists the best of luck for the third year.

I would just like to say a big thank you to all those who exhibited, who came to the show and those who helped organize it.
The hanging committee did a fantastic job squeezing all the various shaped art work into the Eldon building. A big well done to the Refreshment team, Dani Darby and her mum for cooking and preparing all the food.

I would like to say a thank you to our tutors Jacqui Mair and Ken Devine who have been fantastically supportive this year with the show and realizing our ambitions. A big thank you to Nicholas Forbes for all his hard work, the exhibition wouldn't have happened with out him. Well done for Johnny Hamer for getting the band last minute and for all his hard work.

Finally well done to the SOTA team. The exhibition was exciting and pushed the boundaries of contemporary art as well as raising the bar on the level of work expected from an undergrad show.

I for one am extremely excited about this group of artists and am very much looking forward to seeing what they do next.

StateOfTheArt T-Shirt Printing.

Yesterday was a busy day for all clothes shops that sold white shirts. Whilst the StateOfTheArt team grabbed anything they could get their hands on to print logos for advertising, the website team have added artists pictures to the website where you will be able to read an individual statement written by the artist them self as well as see a picture of their individual work. We have done this to offer an interesting insight into the creative minds of our artists as well as a sneak preview of their upcoming work. I for one am very excited. I would also like to take the time to say a big thank you to Robert Knox who kindly printed all the shirts for us!

Best Wishes from StateOfTheArt

Fund Raising,

State of The Art has got off to a successful start, raising an exciting amount of £402.15 so far for the kitty, but as well as donating our own money, we have been doing various fund raisers! With a second cake sale raising £90.00 which isn't half bad considering the lack of student loan or over draft left. Also, a big thank you to all those who donated on the walk, I heard the non-students where the most generous! With a big well done to all those who dressed up in the bad weather who were brave enough to walk around Portsmouth in the rain, and especially a Happy Birthday to Johnny who did this as far as I am aware, hung over from Birthday celebrations!

Jumble Sale.

Portsmouth University's BA FINE ART Level 2 are off to a good start raising money for the end of year show. So far with a successful cake sale and a £110.00 raised at the Jumble Sale last Tuesday State of The Art should be a great success and I for one are very looking forward to it. The Jumble Sale gave the people of Eldon and any lost visitors a chance to pick up a bargain or a present for Mothers Day. I however came away with a book and a teeny tiny cup and saucer which I am sure I will be able to find a use for one day. With the Paint-a-thon and a Fancy Dress walk coming up we look forward to seeing more of you as we attempt to raise money for State of The Art. Here are the pictures for the Jumble Sale, enjoy!

The cake sale was a big success for the State of the Art team raising an exciting £160 to put towards the end of year show. With many more exciting fund raising events to look forward too it seems that this year is going to be a busy but interesting semester. Here are some pictures of the Cake Sale. I would like to take the time to say a big thank you to all those who kindly spent their own spare time making yummy home made cakes as well as all the people who came and bought them!
